WHALE DEFENCE

WHALE DEFENCE

For over 15 years, Sea Shepherd has been relentless in its pursuit to stop the Japanese Whaling Fleet from needlessly killing whales in the Southern Ocean.

Sea Shepherd actions have saved over 6000 whales from Japan's deadly harpoons.

But, we have been alone in this fight and, despite Japan’s whaling activities being deemed illegal, whales continue to die in a protected area, the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, without repercussion.

The Japanese Whaling Fleet is making plans to return to the Southern Ocean this summer to illegally kill 333 protected Minke whales.

With the law and the Australian people behind them, it is time for the Australian Government to take a stand and put a stop to the slaughter, for good.

Without intervention, 333 Minke whales will needlessly die in the southern ocean this summer.

Its not just a number – its 333 lives. The lives of 333 intelligent and majestic animals, some carry young, seeking refuge in the southern ocean.

They’re not just a number, and neither are we.

We urge the Australian Government to:

  • Send a ship to the Southern Ocean to oppose illegal whaling by the Japanese Whaling Fleet
  • Take Japan to the International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea to challenge its whaling activities.
